October was a very busy month for me. Lots of significant experiences. One I would like to share with you is the ceremony I was a part of on Oct 28, 2011, at Man Mound in Baraboo WI. Man Mound is an effigy mound that is over 6000 years old. The Mound was created by Paleo Indians, pre-written history. The Mound was fashioned in the likeness of a man with horns or a horned headdress. The Man Mound is 247 feet in length. It is a very large mound and there are few remaining sacred mounds in the shape of a human. Most mounds have been tilled up by farmers or had been destroyed by road construction. This was prior to the federal legislation protecting sacred Native American sites.
Man Mound is on the north-eastern side of the Baraboo Bluffs. The ceremony was to honor the Ancestors, to connect with their guidance, and to connect with the interplanetary energies of Sirius. The ceremony was a very insightful participation for me. I had been asked to do a Tobacco Giving Ceremony and also to use my Medicine Dress to dance for the blessings this Mound brings to us all. I found that the female energy of the Ancient Grandmothers were present. I felt like I was coming home. I was born in Baraboo, born in the Sacred Bluffs. I was doing a sacred dance that connected us to Sirius and the Ancient Ones who created the Man Mound Effigy. A very blessed time.
