Bo sho, Hello
There are so many interpretations of the Medicine Wheel, the Solstices and Equinoxes and each interpretation is valid. I write about the Summer Solstice from my perspective, which is a blend of all my studies, dreams and visions. I hope there is a nugget of truth for you in this blog.
From my Medicine Wheel perspective, the Summer Solstice is one of the cross winds of the Medicine Wheel, June 21. The cross winds can be uncomfortable like growing pains. As we begin our turn toward the South, the Summer Solstice helps us to prepare for the rapid growth in the warmth of the summer. This part of the Medicine Wheel also represents the move from older adolescence to young adulthood. Young adulthood is where we are just beginning to expand our life experiences.
At the Summer Solstice, we also begin the change of elements from air to fire. The element of Air is the element of the East. The element of Fire represents the direction of the South. Both the Summer and Winter Solstices are the change of elemental forces, thus the growing pains. From a feng shui perspective the element of the East, Air, feeds the element of the South, Fire. This is called a nurturing cycle.
There is also a shift in the amount of sunlight during the Summer Solstice. Night becomes shorter as daylight remains for longer periods of time in the northern hemisphere.
June is the first month of summer. The Potawatomi name for June is Raspberry Moon or Strawberry Moon. In Wisconsin, the Potawatomi use the strawberry to represent the month of June. The strawberry season is in full berry ripeness in June in Wisconsin. In Kansas, where the Prairie Band Potawatomi reservation is located, the raspberry becomes ripe in June. Also according to the Potawatomi, June’s animal totem is the Deer. Deer give birth to their fawns during the first weeks of June.
I love Sacred Geometry and blending this information with the Medicine Wheel information. I add the information about the direction of the South and Summer here so that you may be able to see the change of energies found in the Summer Solstice.
The tetrahedron is one of the Platonic Solids, which represents the energy of the Fire, the compass direction of the South, and the season of Summer. The Platonic Solids are the building blocks of all life. The tetrahedron is triangular shape which represents the elemental energy of Fire. The tetrahedron is the main component of the MerKaBa, the Balanced Light Body Ascension vehicle.
The MerKaBa is two tetrahedrons overlapped at their base. One of the tetrahedron’s apex (point) is upward and the other tetrahedron’s apex is downward. The upward facing tetrahedron represents the Male/Magnetic/Sun energies. The downward facing tetrahedron represents the female/Electromagnetic/Earth.
The two connected tetrahedrons are called a Star Tetrahedron which is the MerKaBa, also known as the Star of David and King Solomon’s seal. The connecting of these two tetrahedrons brings together the male/female energies so that their polarity is balanced. This balance is the Mer in MerKaBa. Ted Andrews, author of Nature-Speak, calls Summer the balance of male/female energies. Looking at the Star Tetrahedron, I can understand his statement.
I believe to have balanced energies we can look to nature’s processes for examples. We need to consciously remember that the energies of the Summer Solstice are where we have a moment to prepare to experience balanced male/female energies. We have the opportunity to use the energy of nature to experience this balance through ceremony and the Summer Solstice just before we are immersed in the Summer’s hot energies.
Ceremony is a way to impress on our conscious selves that Spirit lives through us. I like to keep my ceremonies simple as the more complicated they are we tend to be more in our head than in our heart. This Summer Solstice 2011, I will be focusing on the balance of the male/female energies. I will be doing this ceremony in the Medicine Wheel, facing the direction of the Summer Solstice, which is South East. We will also have a fire to represent the element of the South and the tetrahedrons. I will be drumming my prayer to the Creator to have a grace filled experience of balanced male/female energies. I would like to encourage you to send a prayer in your own way to ask for the opportunity to feel and know the balance of your male/female energies, gracefully and easily. Ask the Creator and your other Spirit guides to help you to Be this balance of yin/yang as you enjoy the rest of the summer.
Wishing You Happy Summer Solstice,
En Lak Esh (You are another Me)
